The face and facies may reveal a series of emotions and diseases.
From pain and anxiety to pallor and jaundice.

  • Pain facies
    In patients suffering severe pain.

  • Facies of Cranial Nerve dysfunction
    CN dysfunction may cause asymmetries, droops, ptosis, strabismus, etc.

  • Mixedematous facies
    In patients with hypothyroidism (thickened features, dry-brittle hair, periorbital edema, coarse-puffy facies).

  • Hyperthyroid facies
    In Grave's disease characterized by exophthalmos and sweaty appearance of the skin.

  • Moon facies
    In hypercortisolism (Cushing's disease/steroid Rx). Full-rounded face + hirsutism + acne.

  • Parkinson facies
    Characterized by lack of expression due to rigidity. In advanced parkinson's disease.

  • Scleroderma facies
    Presents with a shiny skin and tight features.

  • Lupus facies
    In lupus -SLE/Discoid-. Malar rash (erythema).
